Four-Alarm Fire Breaks Out In Lowell Sunday

LOWELL, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A four-alarm fire in Lowell, Mass. Sunday has left two firefighters injured.

The fire began at a multi-use building on High Street at East Merrimack Street. A variety store was on the first floor with apartments above it.

“It was a very stubborn fire to fight. The building is all cut up; it’s an old building. There’s walls dividing the third floor so we had a tough time getting to the fire for a long time,” Lowell Fire Chief Jeffrey Winward said.

One firefighter suffered a hand injury, another suffered an ankle injury. No civilians were hurt during the fire.
