FRAMINGHAM, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Framingham officials say they've discovered a swastika in a vacant lot. Mayor Charlie Sisitsky's office said the symbol was found painted on a "storage container" near the town's public athletic facility at Bowditch Field.

"We don’t know how long it has been there, but the fact that someone chose to display such a hateful symbol in our community is very distressing," the mayor said in a statement.

Police told the MetroWest Daily News the symbol was found on Friday, though the mayor's statement came out Monday. Police are still looking into who could have painted the swastika.

It's the second swastika found in the area in recent days. Late Thursday, Natick Police found the symbol painted on a bridge near the West Natick Commuter Rail stop. It has since been painted over. Officials don't know yet whether the two incidents are connected.
