FRAMINGHAM, Mass. (WBZNewsRadio) — Framingham Recycling Coordinator Eve Carey spends her days sifting through other people's trash.

Digging through recycling bins, she sorts out what belongs there and what does not.

Carey said plenty of people think they are doing a good deed when they put their waste in recycling bins, but many of those items are not actually recyclable.

Residents often put plastic trash bags in their recycling bins, but many of those bags can not be processed by recycling plant machines, Carey said. Workers usually throw them, and everything in them, in the garbage.

"It's very misleading and those people that are purchasing those bags are doing so with the idea that they are recyclable," Carey told WBZ NewsRadio's Chaiel Schaffel.

Carey said her mission is to inform Framingham residents about what belongs in recycling bins and what does not.
