FRAMINGHAM, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Keefe Tech Drama Company has been preparing for their performance of the 1946 film “It’s a Wonderful Life,” but with an old-time twist.

High schoolers from the drama group will take the stage, but with no props or set, just five microphones, turning the classic holiday movie into a live radio act.

While different from a traditional play setup, Theater teacher Erin Rettino said it’s a way to get the students to focus on various fundamentals of acting.

“You have to create characters, and many of these cast members are creating multiple characters,” said Rettino. “I think the concentration is on the words, and the emotion behind the words, rather than the physical action that’s taking place on the stage.”

Despite some initial hesitation from students, they’ve since fully committed to the act. Marley, who plays ‘George’ in the show, said it took some time to get used to the new format.

“You have to focus a lot more on how you enunciate and your facial expressions,” said Marley. “And you have to be, you know, really intentional with how you say things.”
