Free Pop-Up COVID Testing Available In South Boston Until Aug. 15

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Boston Mayor Marty Walsh has announced that a free pop-up coronavirus testing site is available in South Boston from Aug. 4 to Aug. 15.

The site is set up at Moakley Park on Old Colony Avenue near 1187 Columbia Rd. The site will be open Tuesdays through Saturdays.

Here are the site’s hours of operation:

  • Tuesday, Aug. 4 to Friday, Aug. 7 — 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Saturday, Aug. 8 —10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Tuesday Aug. 11 to Friday, Aug. 14 — 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Saturday, Aug. 15 — 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The testing site, which is walk-up only, is available to anyone regardless of symptoms. No appointments are needed, but registration is required for anyone looking to get tested. To pre-register, you can call (617) 568-4500.

This comes amid an uptick in coronavirus cases in Massachusetts. Gov. Charlie Baker said last week that the infection rate has risen above 2% once again.

“We’ve seen troubling clusters developed primarily as a result of not so much the reopening of the Commonwealth’s economy, but related to issues associated with private recreational behavior,” Baker said.
