MARBLEHEAD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Three breast cancer survivors are holding a retreat for fellow survivors.
Zoe Culbertson, owner of Seaside Family Acupuncture in Marblehead, was diagnosed with breast cancer last summer. She came up with the idea of “Surviving to Thriving” as a way to help those in a similar situation as her find support in each other.
“This is an opportunity to make some community and feel like you're not alone,” Culbertson said. “There is a gap in care once you've gone through all the active treatment and you're just a cancer survivor. You’ll always be a cancer survivor, but what does that really mean and how do you hold that and how do you hold that in community?”

The retreat will be on Friday Oct. 24 at The Yoga Loft in Marblehead, and it is specifically designed for those who have finished active cancer treatment (about two months removed or so). It is also free of charge.
"The retreat is an opportunity to come together as a community, have some gentle mindful movement, meditation, discussion and a little light lunch to connect and reflect on our experience in survivorship," Culbertson said.
She will be running the half-day retreat with two other survivors: Kristin Angell, who is a social worker and Celia Brunette, who is a physical therapist and certified yoga therapist.
