AYER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Fire Department officials in Ayer are warning residents to avoid the area near Sculley Road after a freight train derailment.
The fire department responded around noon on Thursday. The freight train, operated by Springfield Terminals, was hauling trash and recycling and there was no hazardous material involved, officials at Ayer Fire and Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency said.
Five cars carrying double-stacked containers derailed in the incident totaling 10 containers, said Massachusets Emergency Management Agency.

The five derailed train cars were holding solid waste, CSX Transportation confirmed to WBZ NewsRadio.
There were no reported injuries to the crew, no hazardous materials involved, no leaks or spills of any freight and no impacts to the environment," a spokesperson for CSX Transportation said.
The incident happened on Pan Am Southern, a line jointly owned by CSX and Norfolk Southern, the company behind the toxic derailment in East Palestine, Ohio last month.
