CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Boston has become something of a meetup spot for world public figures and leaders this week. For the third day of their visit to Massachusetts, the Prince and Princess of Wales split up to cover more ground around the Greater Boston Area on Friday.
First, Princess Catherine traveled to Cambridge in the late morning to visit Harvard University, where she was welcomed by a crowd of onlookers and a strong security detail from the combined forces of the Cambridge Police, Secret Service, Massachusetts State Police.
The princess specifically visited Harvard's Center on the Developing Child, an institution that aims to address obstacles to children with modern technology and science. The trip adds on to Princess Catherine's world mission to promote the physical, emotional, and cognitive development of children. Harvard works in collaboration with the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood, which Princess Catherine established in 2021 to raise awareness for children in need.
Meantime, Prince William prepared for his noon visit to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum, where he was greeted by Caroline Kennedy and her children. The Prince of Wales was set to tour the library prior to the EarthShot Prize ceremony Friday night, and his and Prince Kate's meeting with President Biden, who travels to Boston for a separate occasion on labor unions.
WBZ's Kim Tunnicliffe was there to see Prince William arrive for a private lunch with dignitaries.
The royal couple planned to meet with President Biden at the JFK Library and Museum shortly after his arrival to the state Friday afternoon. The President arrived to the welcome of Massachusetts Senator Ed Markey and Boston Mayor Michelle Wu on the tarmac of Logan Airport. A group of rail workers and labor advocates were posed to protest outside in opposition to the President's legislation to prevent a nationwide rail strike.
