DENVER, Colo. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Frontier Airlines announced on Wednesday it will offer a free checked bag for passengers for flights this summer. This comes after Southwest Airlines said it's ending its “two bags fly free” policy.
The Denver-based company, known for its budget flights and no-frills booking options, normally charges for everything from seat assignments to carry-ons. Now, it will offer an economy bundle that includes a free carry-on bag, seat selection, and flight changes for trips books through Aug. 18.
They are also including a free checked bag for flights departing between May 28 and Aug. 18.
What’s the catch? Bookings must be completed by March 24.
If travelers embrace the new changes, they might become permanent, according to Frontier’s CEO.
"At the end of the day, travelers just want to be valued,” said Barry Biffle. “We’re bringing back the things people love about flying—free bags, free seat selection, and flexibility—without the extra fees. No games, just great value.”
