BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The City of Boston’s “Summer Fitness Series” wraps up this week.
It's been running all summer providing people the opportunity to work up a sweat outdoors.
A corner of Christopher Columbus Park in the North End was converted into an outdoor exercise class Monday evening with a couple of dozen people churning away on stationary Blue Bikes.
Jennifer Misiaszek is the program manager for Boston Parks and Recreation. "We use Blue Bikes on trainers at Christopher Columbus Park to be able to promote not only getting on a bike but being able to ride throughout the city," she said.
As the fitness instructor set the pace and barked out encouragement, class participants, like Hanna, clearly shared her enthusiasm. "I think it's really cool," she said. "I like indoor cycling, so it's fun to do it outside."
The class uses Blue Bikes because Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts is a leading sponsor of the fitness series.
This is the last week for the city’s “Summer Fitness Series”, but Parks and Recreation will continue the fitness events, on a more limited basis, throughout the year.
