MEDFORD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — There's no waitlist to holiday cheer, but this year's demand for gifts was at an unprecedented high for Medford Family Network, and the Teamsters Union Local 25's annual toy drive.

"A waitlist for Christmas is like a jumbo shrimp, that's just not going to work for us," Local 25 Secretary-Treasurer Steve South said.

MFN almost established a waitlist for families needing toys for their children, but upon hearing this news Teamsters jumped into action. In front of Everett City Hall, union workers went into holiday overdrive and delivered more gifts than ever before. Santa himself even made an appearance, helping carry packages of toys.

"Instead of a van this year we brought a big truck to try and make sure that there is no waitlist. We brought in the most toys and money in the history of our toy drive," South said.

MFN Director Marie Cassidy told WBZ NewsRadio's Kyle Bray that it was an emotional moment for the organization, which serves as a free education resource to families in the community.

"It's been really tough for a lot of folks for a lot of things. This gives them an opportunity to then know that they belong in this community, and that we're going to take care of them," Cassidy said.
