MIDDLEBOROUGH, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A girl died in a fire in Middleborough early Saturday morning, authorities said.
Middleborough Fire and Police officials said crews were dispatched to 27 Pearl St. at around 2 a.m. for a report of people trapped in a fire.

Companies attempted to rescue a girl who was reportedly still inside the building, but heavy fire conditions prevented them from getting inside, said Middleborough Fire Chief Owen Thompson and Police Chief Joseph Perkins.
Once the fire was knocked down, the girl was found dead inside the home, authorities said.
In addition, officials said a woman was hospitalized with serious burns, while a man and another girl were both hospitalized with less severe injuries.
The names of the victims have not been released.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by local and state agencies.
