BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Three neon-bright boxes are hanging from a colorful wall outside the Harvard Ed Portal on Western Ave. in Allston.

The 'Give and Take Swap Boxes' are an interactive public art installation created by artist Brooke Scibelli at Non-Issue Studio in Boston founded by Brooke and Dyllan Nguyen.

Visitors can leave or take items that range from toys, plants, pottery, art supplies, trinkets, etc. And it's all free. "This is Give and Take Swap Boxes for Allston-Brighton," Scibelli said. "Similar to the little free library movement where people are swapping books, you can swap other objects. It is also celebrating sustainability and keeping useful items out of the waste stream."

Scibelli added that the idea came from a similar movement in Portland, Oregon.

The free objects inside the boxes represent rotating themes determined by community input.

The current theme is Ceramics, Plants & Art Supplies.

The Swap Boxes will be up until next spring.
