BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — In a new study, the Commonwealth was ranked as the state with the highest number of public electric vehicle charging stations per 1,000 square kilometers.
The new data came from FINN, a vehicle subscription service based in Germany. FINN reported that Massachusetts has 85.39 stations per 1,000 square kilometers, followed by Rhode Island with 72.27.
Massachusetts also was ranked in the top 10 states with the highest registration rates for plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEV) and hybrid electric vehicles (HEV).
FINN compiled information from the U.S. Department of Energy and the Pew Research Center, among other resources.
In recent years, the Massachusetts state government has announced its intent to increase the number of charging stations for electric vehicles, especially near state roadways. Most recently, the town of North Andover, Mass., approved a plan to install a total of 12 new charging ports through the Massachusetts Electric Vehicle Incentive Program.
