CHATHAM, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Four boaters on the Cape were rescued off of a sinking boat by good Samaritans on Saturday morning. The Chatham Harbormaster got word of a boat in trouble about 11 miles off the coast at around 9:15 AM.

The boat — a 23-foot sports vessel — was taking on water, and the boaters on it had fired off a hand-held signal flare which turned out to be their saving grace. A nearby boat called the Harbormaster and Coast Guard, and sped to the boaters' aid, just minutes before their boat capsized, according to a Coast Guard Spokeswoman.

All four people aboard, and two dogs according to WBZ-TV, were safely rescued off the sinking boat.

The capsized boat was towed back to shore and salvaged.
