Gov. Baker Announces COVID-19 Vaccine Mandate For Long Term Care Staff

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Gov. Charlie Baker announced Wednesday that long term care staff will be required to get fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by Oct. 10, 2021. The goal of the mandate is to protect older adults in skilled nursing facilities.

There are currently 378 skilled nursing facilities and two Soldiers’ Homes in the state. According to the Baker Administration, as of Aug. 2, 155 facilities had less than 75% of their staff fully vaccinated.

Gov. Baker said skilled nursing facilities and the two Soldiers’ Homes will be required to ensure all staff are fully vaccinated.

Staff will be required to get their first dose by Sept. 1, and be fully vaccinated by Oct. 10. There will be exemptions for those with medical restrictions or sincerely held religious beliefs that prevent them from getting the vaccine.
