BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Now that Suffolk D.A. Rachael Rollins has been confirmed to the U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts post, Gov. Charlie Baker isn't giving away any hints as to who could take her old job.

Speaking from a press appearance in Roxbury, Gov. Baker offered his congratulations to Rollins.

It's up to the governor to appoint someone to the vacated position. Gov. Baker said he had a "handful," of candidates in mind as a shortlist, and will be making a decision "shortly."

"All the folks that are on that list are qualified, and they're all people who expressed an interest to us," he said. Besides that, Gov. Baker was short on details.

Rollins made waves as a progressive prosecutor, and WBZ NewsRadio's Karyn Regal asked the governor if he would pick someone that would fall in Rollins' mold.

"The most important thing for all of us...is that the City of Boston be safe, and the justice be fair," he said.
