BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Gov. Maura Healy signed a plan into law that will increase Massachusetts' ability to pursue and receive federal funding.

The money will be used for projects including infrastructure, transportation, job creation, and economic development across the state.

Healey said the legislation will give communities the tools required to seek the federal support they need. "This is unprecedented levels of federal funding made available through the Biden-Harris administration," she said.

Healy said Massachusetts competes with other states to receive federal funding, and since she's been in office, improvements have been made to the portion the state receives.

She said Massachusetts has risen from 34th to 7th in the total amount of money the state has received from Washington D.C.

So far, she said Massachusetts has received $8.6 billion in funding since she took office.
