BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey has unveiled her $63 billion budget proposal.

While criticizing the Trump Administration's federal cuts and high costs, Healey said the budget proposal preserves funding and services for the Commonwealth's most vulnerable, including children and seniors.

She said the budget represents a 1% increase compared to the current fiscal year's spending. "That's less than last year's rate, and the lowest proposed since we took office," she said.

Gov. Healey also said that her proposed budget is aimed at lowering costs while maintaining funding for essential services despite fiscal challenges and a projected tax revenue increase of just 2.9%. "It includes the strongest programs in the country to keep health care costs low for middle-class families and for small business owners, despite the wrong-headed and irresponsible cuts by Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress."

The three Republican candidates running for governor criticized the proposal, calling it bloated.

They said Beacon Hill is still overtaxing and overspending.

Healey's budget proposal now goes to lawmakers for approval.
