BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker announced on Monday a total of nearly $49 million in grant funds that will be awarded to local and small businesses.
The funds come through the Covid-19 Small Business Grant Program, which was announced in October as part of the administration’s efforts to help people struggling financially during the pandemic, called Partnerships for Recovery.
Businesses that are receiving the aid include ones that are owned by women, veterans, people of color, people with disabilities and LGBTQ+ individuals.
"Through the grants we are announcing today, some of the hardest hit businesses and communities across Massachusetts will be able to cover a number of expenses," Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito said. "Including payroll and benefits costs, mortgage interest, rent and utilities."
Officials behind the program worked with local non-profits and organizations to identify underrepresented groups who could apply for the program, which resulted in 1,158 small businesses getting accepted for an award.
Baker says every eligible applicant who did not receive government aid previously during the pandemic was approved to get the funds.
People who were accepted were notified on Monday that they will be receiving the relief.
