ANDOVER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Millions of dollars in state grants are being allocated to the workforce, providing trainings to make jobs more accessible to residents facing hurdles to employment.

At the Greater Lawrence Technical School in Andover, Governor Maura Healey announced $3.5 million dollars in new workforce success grants. WBZ's Shari Small was there to hear Governor Healey's thoughts on the matter.

"We were at Raytheon, which is a multi-national, global company, that we're lucky to have in Massachusetts, and the one thing the CEO told us is that they need workforce. They need help with a pipeline of talent," Healey said.

The grants stresses the importance of vocational training similar to that offered at GLTS, which is receiving nearly $370,000 of the grant money.

"Fortunately we have the technical schools, the vocational schools— they just need the support, and this a great, great program we'll be able to announce," Healey said.

Funding for GLTS will make for training and placement services for 48 unemployed and underemployed participants in medical assistant positions
