BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Hundreds of local community college students didn't let a nor'easter dampen their spirits on graduation day.

Among the graduation ceremonies being held on Thursday, Bunker Hill Community held its 51st commencement exercise at the MGM Fenway Music Hall.

Lt. Governor Kim Driscoll delivered the keynote address.

Myrsaida, one of the graduates, said despite the rain, she was having a good time. "This is my day, I'm enjoying it, I'm having fun, and I'm grateful," she said.

Like many of the other graduates, Myrsaida is also grateful for the state's tuition-free program. "It was wonderful. I didn't have to pay a dime. I'm grateful I was able to get an education for free because of the help of the state, so I'm happy."

Graduate Sarah Ortiz is a mother of three and agreed that the tuition-free program was a huge benefit. "Having to deal with that financial aspect of it is a little daunting, so it was definitely a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," she said. "I don't think I would have been able to do it without the financial help."

Also graduating on Thursday, Massasoit Community College.

Other local community colleges graduating this month include Massachusetts Bay Community College, Roxbury Community College and Benjamin Franklin Cummings Institute of Technology.
