BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Air Quality Alerts have been issued on Thursday for Greater Boston by the Environmental Protection Agency. The agency said ozone levels will be elevated between 11 a.m. and 11 p.m.
The alerts stretch from Boston and Quincy to the North Shore, the Merrimack Valley and the New Hampshire border. The EPA is warning residents to avoid strenuous exercise in the outdoors, especially those with sensitive lungs.
Ozone can aggravate breathing problems like asthma. Smoke from wildfires burning in Nova Scotia has already caused a haze in the area in recent days.
High ground-level ozone levels are caused when car and truck emissions interact with bright sunlight.
