SOMERVILLE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Green Line service between Lechmere and Union Station is suspended this week, and many riders were blindsided.
“I just found out the train is not running for this week, I could have walked to Gilman had I known,” said one local resident.
Many assumed shuttles would be replacing service, but that’s not the case. The suspension lasts through Sunday for track work, but shuttles will only be provided this weekend. Until then, the MBTA is encouraging riders to use the 86, 87 or 91 bus lines to get to Sullivan Square for Orange Line service.
From 8:30 p.m. on Nov. 15 through Nov. 17, this closure will extend from Park Street to East Somerville stops.
“I guess it would have been helpful to know ahead of time, although I’m not sure what kind of outreach that would’ve taken,” said another local resident.
There were phone alerts and boards posted at the intersection of Union Square, but it seems like that wasn’t enough for some people.
“Sad to hear that it's closed, I have a doctor’s appointment at MGH, so I was hoping to get to that, but I think I might be driving today,” said another local resident.

This suspension is just one of many as the T works to get rid of slow zones.
Much of the Orange Line was suspended last month for work on slow zones, and coming up, service on the Red Line between Broadway and Harvard stations will be suspended from Nov. 18 to Nov. 24.
“Every week they keep changing putting this down, it’s affecting all of us,” said another local resident.
