Groton Family Starts Dance Challenge For ALS

GROTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A Groton family, dealing with ALS, has started a dance challenge to raise money.

Derek Michaud, who has ALS, and his family started the “Dance It Out Challenge for ALS” after they posted a video of the family — his wife, Sarajean, and their two children — dancing to Madonna.

“Everybody loves Madonna,” Sarajean said. “So we just went with it. And all these people started dancing.”

Derek was diagnosed in 2017. Now, the family can no longer live in their house because it is not handicap accessible. They have since swapped homes with a friend in Pepperell.

The family needs as much as $12,000 a month to pay for Derek’s needs that insurance will not cover.
