BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Several hundred members of the Boston-area Haitian community rallied Tuesday afternoon on the Boston Common to demonstrate solidarity amid false allegations spread by former president Donald Trump.

The Springfield, Ohio community has been under attack for weeks ever since Trump started amplifying false rumors about Haitian migrants in Springfield stealing and eating people's pets.

Boston City Council President Ruthzee Louijeune is Haitian and was one of the speakers at the rally held near the Embrace Monument. "When I first heard that lie, I said they're messing with the wrong people," she said to cheers.

The crowd chanted 'Dignity' and 'Respect' while speakers encouraged people to vote in the upcoming election and to stay unified.
