CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Professors at Harvard are putting their money where their lesson plans are.
More than 80 senior faculty members of the Ivy League university have pledged to donate 10 percent of their salaries for a year to help combat what they call unlawful attacks from the Trump administration.
After accusing the university of discrimination, the administration froze more than $2 billion in research grants and is considering revoking the university's certificate for enrolling foreign students and its tax-exempt status.
According to the pledge, the group of professors addressed the administration's demands, stating, "We are heartened by the University's rejection of the Trump administration's unlawful demands. We also recognize that the University now faces severe financial damage for its defense of academic freedom."
The group has collected $2 million in pledges so far, with signatures still coming in.
Harvard filed a lawsuit against the administration on April 21 in an attempt to halt the freeze on funding, arguing that the freeze is unconstitutional and unlawful.
Harvard's President recently apologized after a report found the university allegedly mishandled accusations of Islamophobia and antisemitism on campus.
