CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Harvard University suspended a shelter-in-place alert after shots were allegedly fired at the Harvard Square MBTA station.

The original alert asked those on campus to "Please enter the nearest building and stay there until all clear is given." Transit police responded to calls about gunshots near the Cambridge campus after 2 pm.

According to The Harvard Crimson, witnesses reported hearing three or four shots before seeing a man run out of the train station holding a handgun.

The MBTA reported delays of about 25 minutes on the Red Line due to police activity on social media. Shuttles have since replaced service.
