BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Toy manufacturing company Hasbro is moving its headquarters from Rhode Island to Massachusetts.
Gov. Maura Healy confirmed the decision from the makers of Play-Doh, Monopoly and Nerf on Monday.
The new location will be the main headquarters for Hasbro’s toys, board games, and licensing businesses while also including most of its corporate services.
“Boston’s thriving business community, deep academic partnerships and cultural vibrancy, together with our Seattle team’s leadership in technology, creativity and innovation, give Hasbro an unparalleled foundation for growth,” said Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks.
“Together, these offices will fuel the next chapter of Hasbro,” he continued.
The move is expected to bring at least 700 jobs to the state.
This comes as Gov. Maura Healy and her administration have been working alongside the toy making giant while they determined where to relocate.
“We are thrilled that Hasbro has chosen Massachusetts as the home of its new headquarters, and we’re ready to support the hundreds of jobs they will create here,” said Gov. Healy.
The move follows several other companies as they have recently opened their headquarters in the Bay State.
Keurig Dr Pepper recently announced they are basing their global headquarters in Burlington, while fellow toy company Lego opened its U.S. headquarters on Boylston Street in Boston earlier this year.
The new headquarters will be located on 400 Summer St. in Boston’s Seaport District.
“I’m delighted to welcome Hasbro to its new home in Boston,” said Boston Mayor Michelle Wu. “The creativity and wonder at the heart of Hasbro’s work are also at the heart of our mission to make Boston a home for everyone.”
The company plans to transition its staff from its current Pawtucket, Rhode Island headquarters to Boston by the end of 2026.
We reached out to Rhode Island Gov. Daniel McKee for comment but have not heard back.
