Haverhill Police Officer Facing Drunken Driving Charge After Crash

HAVERHILL, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A Haverhill police officer was arrested on a drunk driving charge following a two-car crash Sunday night.

Haverhill police said Officer Carlos Arriaga was off duty at the time of the crash, which occurred just before 8 p.m. in the area of 216 Essex Street.

According to police, Arriaga's 2017 Mercedes GLE 350 struck a parked and occupied 2022 Honda CRV, damaging both vehicles. Both drivers reported minor injuries.

Arriaga was arrested for operating under the influence of liquor and has been placed on administrative leave.

There are no additional details available and the investigation remains ongoing.
