MIDDLETON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A Lawrence man charged in the death of an 11-year-old Haverhill girl is now in solitary confinement after being beaten up by fellow inmates.
Miguel Rivera was in a fight with four other inmates at the Essex County Jail in Middleton.
The Essex County Sheriff said in a release that Rivera suffered bumps, bruises, and a small cut, and was treated at the jail's infirmary.
He's been placed in a single cell, and will have no interaction with other inmates.
Rivera had just been arraigned the day before on an additional charge of child rape in connection with the death of his great-niece last month.
The girl was taken from Rivera's apartment December 15, allegedly with fentanyl in her system. She died a couple of days later.
Rivera had already been charged with misleading a police investigation.
