The building was evacuated as a precaution and 11 employees were taken to local hospitals, while the fire department initiated a Tier 1 HAZMAT response, police said.
According to an Amazon spokesperson, a malfunctioning battery "created smoke in an area of the building and first responders asked those nearest the smoke to report to the hospital for a precautionary evaluation."
The site was deemed safe and has since resumed operations, Amazon said.
