“The Body-Worn Camera Grant Program reflects our commitment to improving public safety, enhancing police-community relations, and upholding our values of transparency and accountability,” said Governor Maura Healey in a statement. “This technology has become an essential tool for law enforcement, and we’re proud to invest in resources that advance best practices and ensure safer communities across Massachusetts,” Healey added.

“Body-worn camera programs promote safer communities and provide a valuable tool that enhances transparency and accountability – the fundamental values to building stronger relationships between police and the communities they serve,” said Lt. Governor Kim Driscoll.

The communities that received the most funding included the police departments of Chicopee, Falmouth, Norwood, Stoneham, Stoughton, and Watertown, according to a press release.
