BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — With highs in the 80s and 90s, a heat advisory is in effect for most of Massachusetts through Tuesday evening, except for the South Coast, Cape, and Islands.

The National Weather Service issued the advisory until 8 p.m. on Tuesday. The advisory suggested that Bay Staters stay out of the sun, drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, and check on relatives and neighbors as the high temperatures coupled with the high humidity may cause heat-induced illnesses.

Officials advise that adults and children should use sunscreen containing an SPF-30 or higher and wear, loose-fitting clothing on days like this — a suggestion Hunter from Gloucester already abides by.

"I wear a lot of linen in the summer. Shorts are a must."

If Bay Staters are looking for some reprieve from the hot temperatures, local resident Elizabeth suggests visiting her favorite local spot.

"Going to the local library. It's cool all day and they let anyone in there. We gotta make use of your libraries. And I gotta really cool book."

According to Accuweather, there is potential for thunderstorms on Monday night and Tuesday.
