BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) Heavy rain flooded parts of I-93 and other roadways Thursday morning, causing many road closures on the South Shore.

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for Boston, Quincy, Weymouth, Braintree, Milton and Randolph until 11:15 a.m. Thursday, and a flood watch for the eastern part of the state excluding the Cape and Islands until 4 p.m.

The worst of the rain is likely over, with AccuWeather predicting cloudy conditions with a couple of lingering showers to close out the day on Thursday.

Due to flooding on the roadways, I-93 northbound was closed Thursday morning at exit 8, and I-93 southbound was closed at exit 10 in Quincy. Exit 3 in Milton was also closed.

Flooding in Braintree also caused the MBTA to shut down service between Quincy Adams and Braintree on the Red Line. Shuttle buses were provided, but those were also canceled due to heavy traffic and local flooding, according to the MBTA.

Several cars were seen stuck in some flooded roadways across the South Shore. The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency encouraged drivers to turn around and avoid the flooding to prevent getting stuck or swept up in flood water.

It might take a bit for roads and land to dry up, but the Boston area is at least in for a break from the rain Friday and through the weekend, according to the AccuWeather Forecast.
