BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Despite the ongoing pandemic, highways across the country are expected to be busy this Labor Day weekend.
In a survey by AAA, around 90 percent of travelers said they will be getting away for the holiday weekend by car this year, instead of by air. According to Mary Maguire of AAA Northeast, Cape Cod and the Berkshires are among the top favorite holiday weekend destinations for drivers.
"I think given the good weather forecast, we'll see plenty of traffic on the Bourne and Sagamore bridges, and plenty of traffic on the Pike as people head to the Berkshires," she said.
Based on a small number of people surveyed, once travelers get to the Commonwealth, it doesn't look like many of them are planning to stay at hotels.
"70 percent of people told us they would not stay in a hotel," Maguire said. "So that's again an indication people are wanting to control their environment."
