BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A winter storm watch is in effect for parts of Mass. as the first snowstorm of 2024 moves closer.
The National Weather Service (NWS) said a winter storm watch is in effect from Saturday afternoon through late Sunday night for Suffolk, Eastern Norfolk and Northern Bristol Counties.
Boston is projected to get between 4 to 6 inches of snow, while northern and western towns in Mass. could see 8 to 12 inches. Wind gusts could reach as high as 40 mph.
The South Shore, Cape and Islands are projected to stay under an inch, as the rain will mix in with the snow.
The NWS also pushed up the timeline of the storm. Peak conditions are expected to hit on Saturday evening, with heavy snow, low visibility and snow-covered roads. They expect lighter snow after midnight on Sunday.
The NWS is also warning of a flash freeze on Sunday for eastern Mass. and Rhode Island, including Boston and Providence. Expect there to be slow travel due to slippery roads.
