WELLESLEY Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — College applicants are being given more time to request student financial aid.
The Free Application for Student Financial Aid (FAFSA) is an application that prospective and current college students complete to determine their eligibility for student financial aid. Widespread technical glitches with the digital FAFSA application have caused numerous errors and delays.
The deadline to complete the FAFSA application has been moved from May 1 to July 1.

Acting Commissioner of the State Department of Early and Secondary Education Russell Johnston said there is no need for prospective college students to worry.
“There is definitely still time for college-bound students to fill out the [FAFSA] and apply for college this fall,” said Johnston.
State Secretary of Education Patrick Tutwiler said the extension helped open up funding for public schools to help students complete the application.
“The announcement lifted up the nearly $600 thousand in grants going to more than 100 public schools. School leaders and councilors can use the money for FAFSA completion events,” said Tutwiler.
