NAHANT, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The historic Howe Manor in Nahant has received major renovations and is back on the market for a hefty price.

Built in 1880, the 10,800 square foot manor was meant to be used as a country house and was one of the first buildings on Little Nahant Island.

After years of being in disrepair, the building caught the eye of real estate developer and Volnay Capital founder Ricky Beliveau, who found out about the property via an Instagram post.

“It went into foreclosure, was owned by the government, was going to auction, and I was tagged in a social media post,” Beliveau said.

After securing access to the manor, he began renovations, which took about two years and cost more than $2 million to complete.

“A lot of the walls had been collapsing and falling in, the woodwork had been deteriorating, the floors were ruined,” he said.

One of the standout aspects of the house that impressed him the most was the tower that stretched up to the fifth floor and offered a 360° view of beach and sky.

According to Beliveau, that very woodwork and design was unique to buildings of that time, making preserving it important.

“The woodwork on this is something that you just wouldn't see redone in today's age,” he said, speaking about the newly renovated grand staircase. “If you were to build a ground up construction house, even if it was a similar design and layout, it just wouldn't have the same historical feel.”

The Howe Manor is now on the market for $5.5 million.
