BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Massachusetts State Police say they've received over 100 calls Friday about a reported hoax call that uses their phone number.

The reports are coming from all across the country, State Police said in a Facebook post.

In the calls, someone reportedly claims that a family member of the call recipient is "in danger," and encourages them to call "Highway Patrol."

The number on the caller ID from those calls is 617-727-6780, which is the number for the department's Boston Barracks.

"If you receive a similar call, be advised that these are believed to be hoax calls from someone spoofing the barracks phone number," State Police wrote.
