The victim, whom neighbors had pulled from underneath the vehicle, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, officials said.

According to the department, local and state investigators have determined the man stored an acetylene tank in the trunk of his car, which appeared to have leaked while parked overnight.

Officials said the exact ignition source remains unknown, but they believe the blast was accidental. There was also no significant fire damage as a result of the blast, authorities said.

An investigation is ongoing.
