PLAINVILLE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — It's off to the races for horses at the Plainridge Park Casino, as harness racing season began Monday with hooves stomping and riders being pulled along on wheels.

Plainridge is the only place in Massachusetts that has hosted any kind of horse racing since Suffolk Downs closed shop on live racing in 2019. WBZ's Karyn Regal got trackside to speak with onlookers at harness racing's seasonal debut.

"All I know is that the favorite didn't win the race, so it's going to pay higher," said spectator Dave Ouilette. Ouilette then went on to win on his $5 bet, bringing him to $18 won.

According to the casino, live racing will take place every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday until September where times change for the fall.
