BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Boston could soon see a major jump in liquor license approvals soon, the most changes since the end of the prohibition period.
WBZ NewsRadio reports that a bill on Beacon Hill would allow for 205 liquor licenses to be approved in the City of Boston and will now go to the Senate for final approval.

Most of these newly approved licenses will be heading to underserved communities in Boston and minority owned small businesses. Mayor Michelle Wu has supported the bill and said in a statement Thursday that “these needed liquor licenses will help bring new life to vacant retail spaces in neighborhood commercial spaces and strengthen our economy and community.”
Wu also added that these new approvals will also provide another stream of revenue for different restaurants.
If the bill passes in the Senate, it will go directly to Governor Healey’s desk for final approval.
