How To Help Your Community During Coronavirus

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — As closures and layoffs continue amid the coronavirus pandemic, organizations are setting up funds to help those in need and those who are working through the crisis.

Here's a list of local groups you can contribute to during this time:

  • Union Capital Boston is collecting money to send as $150 Visa gift cards directly to Boston residents in need.
  • The Red Cross is in need of blood, and you can set up an appointment to donate. Find the location closest to you here.
  • The City of Boston set up the Boston Resiliency Fund to "provide food for children and seniors, technology for remote learning for students, and support to first responders and healthcare workers in the City of Boston."
  • The United Way of Mass. Bay and Merrimack Valley set up a family support fund to assist hourly and low-wage workers and their families.
  • Toast, a Boston-based restaurant software company, is rallying for restaurants and encouraging the public to buy gift cards to help them stay afloat.
  • The Boston Area Performer Support Fund is a GoFundMe set up to support performers of all kinds who have been negatively affected by performance cancellations.
  • The Record Co. set up the Boston Music Maker Relief Fund, offering awards to Boston-based artists whose income has been affected by performance cancellations.
  • The City of Boston Artist Relief Fund is offering awards of $500 and $1,000 to Boston-based artists whose income has been negatively affected by COVID-19.
  • The Actors Fund is providing grants to actors left unemployed by coronavirus-related closures. Actors can apply online.
