BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Hundreds of flights are being cut across the country as the FAA and airlines continue to try to navigate the longest government shutdown on record.

While the government is closed, airports like Boston Logan are doing what they can to keep their operations running. But with the FAA cutting back on flights nationwide, travelers like Shugi are finding themselves in a tough spot. She may have to miss a work conference she paid for next week because her flight was on the chopping block.

"They told me they would reschedule me on a flight. However, the reschedules are only available two days after my flight, so there's no same-day reschedules available, which is a huge inconvenience," Shugi said. "And there's no reschedules available a day in advance either. So I kind of am debating if I can even like go to the conference any more or if I need to just like drive myself out there."

Lost in the chaos of cancellations and long wait times, can be the toll on TSA agents and air traffic controllers. Many airport employees are still showing up for work despite the fact that they haven't been paid in weeks.

"They aren't getting paid and they're still coming to work, so don't be mad at the TSA agent. Call your congressman or senator and tell them to pass the budget," one traveler said.

Some travelers are even calling them heroes for sticking it out.

"I think that you have to be patient with them. They're the ones who are suffering not us," another traveler said.
