BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The annual Children's Winter Festival returned to Boston Common Wednesday for an afternoon of frozen fun.

Mayor Michelle Wu and the Boston Parks and Recreation Department presented the event, helping hundreds of kids stay busy during the February school break.

Attendees braved the frigid temperatures to take part in dozens of games and activities, including a fun house maze, a candy cane obstacle course, and the Boston Music Group's musical instrument "petting zoo."

"We’re out enjoying the beautiful day," said Jean, who was playing a giant game of Connect Four with her niece Helena and nephew Miles.

Freddy and his younger brother Otis enjoyed some free ice cream, despite the fact that it was 23 degrees Fahrenheit at the time.

"I don’t have mittens on right now and my hands are really cold," Freddy told WBZ NewsRadio. When asked if he was getting brain freeze from the ice cream, Freddy replied, "No, the weather might give me one if I breathe the air in."

"Every year, there’s something cool here," said Molly, the boys' mother. "It’s a little easier when it’s warmer, I’ll say that."
