QUINCY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Hurricane Lee is getting bigger and stronger in the Atlantic.
Forecasters say Lee as of Tuesday morning was a Category 3 hurricane and could impact New England, and possibly Massachusetts.
Residents up and down the Eastern seaboard are keeping a wary eye on Lee. especially in areas prone to flooding, like the south shore.
Quincy resident Frank said while he doesn't expect a direct hit from the storm, big waves, strong winds, and high tides can spell trouble in his neck of the woods. "The major spots would probably be up by the causeways," he said referring to the area around Squantum, a Quincy barrier island neighborhood connected to the mainland by causeways built over wetlands. "That area tends to flood more than other sections," he said. "The wind keeps the water from moving out. We live in a coastal community that acts like a beaver dam keeping the water from draining."
Forecasters on Tuesday said Hurricane Lee is expected to make a northward turn in the coming days potentially threatening New England, although a direct hit appears unlikely.
