BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Hyde Park became the latest home for Open Streets Boston Sunday.

For the first time since the Open Streets program began in 2022, the neighborhood closed River Street to vehicular traffic from Hyde Park Avenue to Fairmount and Davison streets.

The response from Hyde Park residents was quite positive.

"You can be a jaywalker, it’s encouraged," one person happily told WBZ NewsRadio.

"Life without the tyranny of vehicle," described another passerby.

The two designated Open Streets zones were filled with vendors, artisans, food trucks, community organizations, and plenty of good vibes.

"It is a party, there’s good food, there’s dancing, there’s a little bit of everything," said Monét Smith, a self-help author, beautician, and wellness coach. "I’ve been doing every Open Streets and I’ve met a lot of great people."

"I love how everybody is kind of, like, helping, you’ll see people always giving kind of a hand out to each other, it’s just a really good community," added one vendor.

Cheryl Reynolds came down to River Street to raise awareness for breast cancer.

"Bring the newborn right straight down to grandma and have a good time," Reynolds said.

The next Open Streets Boston event is in East Boston on Sunday, Sept. 15.
