BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — While the Brighton retail market has its challenges filling empty storefronts, 360 Washington Street in Brighton Center has had a steady presence for the past 15 years.
Ice cream has persisted in this exact spot, though there have been three different ice cream shops there over the previous five years.
Currently, Sweet Spoon has taken over for the previous Scoop N Scootery, which had been there since 2020.
Abbott's was in the spot for a decade before that.
The new store offers a variety of ice cream flavors along with frozen yogurt, non-dairy ice cream, milkshakes, croissants, waffle bubbles, and more.
A worker at the shop said the weather hasn't exactly been 'ice cream weather' yet.
For the most part, it's been a rainy and cool spring in the Boston area.
Sweet Spoon will be trying a few different things setting it apart from its predecessor, like homemade ice cream.
Boston's retail sector, including Brighton's, continues to face major challenges like rising commercial rents, increased food costs, and online competition.
But the hope is that at least ice cream will endure, and Sweet Spoon will stick.
