BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The number of patients hospitalized with COVID-19 in Massachusetts has been steadily increasing since mid-September, according to the state Department of Public Health.
The state's three-day average number of people hospitalized with the coronavirus has risen more than 65 percent in the last 30 days, the DPH said.
On Saturday, there were 531 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in Massachusetts, 86 in intensive care, and 28 intubated. Three hospitals in the Commonwealth were using surge capacity.
The DPH said less than 25 percent of the state's non-ICU beds are currently available.
With 587 new cases of the virus confirmed Saturday, Massachusetts has now confirmed a total of 135,598 cases of COVID-19, and 9,372 deaths among confirmed cases.
According to Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Center, the U.S. has surpassed 7.7 million confirmed cases of COVID-19, and close to 215,000 Americans have died of the virus to date.
